Excel or CSV: which should I pick?
Pick Excel (XLSX) to open the file straight in Excel with a frozen header row; pick CSV for Google Sheets, databases or scripts. All five formats are compared on the export formats page.

Install DiscordSuite from the Chrome Web Store.

Click Export and save.
What columns do you get?
Both formats have the same 11 columns.

Opening CSV in Excel and Google Sheets
DiscordSuite's CSV is UTF-8 with a byte-order mark, so emoji and accents display correctly when you double-click it in Excel. In Google Sheets, use File โ Import โ Upload. Message text that starts with =, +, - or @ is escaped with an apostrophe so it can't run as a formula.
Ideas for analysis
- Count messages per person with a pivot table on Author.
- Chart activity over time by grouping Timestamp by day.
- Filter Content for keywords or links.
Frequently asked questions
Can I export Discord messages to Google Sheets?
Yes. Export to CSV or XLSX, then import the file into Google Sheets.
Why do emoji look broken in my CSV?
DiscordSuite's CSV includes a UTF-8 marker that Excel recognizes. If another app shows odd characters, import the file as UTF-8.
